Panoramic View of the South Pole
SOUTH POLE STATION, ANTARCTICA– (By Ron Hipschman) Both the new South Pole Station (the large grey building), and the old South Pole Station (the half-buried geodesic dome) can be seen in this panorama. You can see the ceremonial pole surrounded by flags and the true geographic South Pole about 100 yards away.

Why didn’t you make a QuickTimeVR? Looks like an amazing new facility, congratulations and keep up the good work!
Spanky,
QTVR’s are so 90’s! I’ve actually done many QTVR’s in the past, but this newer and vastly higher resolution technology seemed appropriate. You can’t zoom into a QTVR like you can a GigaPan and hard as it is to believe, the GigaPan robotic mount is actually cheaper than any QTVR rig I’ve ever seen. True, you can’t host your own GigaPans (yet) as I don’t think anyone has put out an open-source server yet, but they are so much more impressive.
Thanks for the comment,
Ron
Considering you could be colder in Chicago I hope you’re having fun, give me an email when you get back Tom
