Our First Coring Attempt



ABOARD THE JOIDES RESOLUTION, OFF THE COAST OF WILKES LAND, ANTARCTICA– Hello Everyone! Here is Video Blog #2 from IODP Expedition 318, Wilkes Land, Antarctica. Here we see our very first try at drilling a hole in the seafloor 3800 meters below the ship – the first real work of the expedition and the first time any attempt has been made to drill at this spot. There is a surprise ending! But not to worry – the expedition goes on!

  1. It’s hard to believe you’re on a ship, everything looks so vast, like a factory floor. I bet you could get really hurt if one of those hooks swung around and hit you in the back–no wonder the guys are wearing hard hats!
