Finishing Our Field Work

1 comment In this latest audio dispatch, I describe the end of our field work here–taking down our camp and setting our devices so they continue to collect data for us for the next two years.
In this image of Antarctica, you can see the location of Whillans Ice Stream, where we’ve been living for the past three weeks.
I am wondering if anyone is looking at the deuterium/hydrogen ratio profile in polar water, ice, minerals, bird feathers, etc. to see if there are any historic changes or trends. I recently read how the U.S. Geological Survey mapped D/H ratios in migratory birds and found some correlations with latitude. My own hypothesis is that D/H ratios are caused by astronomical phenomena which become fixed in organic and mineral processes.
